FA Chartered Standard League

Mini Soccer Finals

HDYFL Mini Soccer Finals another great Success!

The Horsham District Youth league Mini Soccer finals were held at Ashington Cougars FC at the weekend.

In the under 9s age group 31 teams started out. The format was similar to the Champions league with a group stage, with the winners and runners up progressing into a knock out cup and the 3rd- 4th place into the plate. Each match involved 2 games so that the whole squad could feature in competitive matches.

The cup was contested between Southwater Royals and East Grinstead Meads.  What a close affair. The first game was 0-0 with end to end football. East Grinstead Meads then scored in the first half of the second game and you could say against the run of play. Could then hold out in this very tense affair?  Royals managed to equalise in the second half and now looked the likely team to score the winner. Meads goalkeeper had kept them in the game and when the game finished in a draw it meant the dreaded penalties.  East Grinstead Meads kept there head and won 4-2 and so became the second winners of the cup.

In the plate competition Broadbridge Heath Bears  played Horsham Tigers. Again another close affair. Was this going to penalties? As it was nip and tuck between the two sides until Broadbridge scored in the last final 5 minutes to secure a 4-3 win overall.

In the under 10s 35 teams contested the cup competition.  In the plate trophy for the losers in the first round. Southwater won the first game 2-0, Billingshurst scored first in the second game and were looking for the equaliser when Southwater manage to score that important next goal. Shortly afterwards scored another and won overall 4-1.

In the Final of the cup. Hassocks Hawks who had won the previous year as under 9s could they retain there cup? Playing this time against a strong Faygate United Youth, we were in for a close game. However Hawks were fast off the blocks and raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first 10 minutes. Faygate then managed to hold out the rest of the first game without conceding another. At the start of the second game Faygate scored early and now we had a game on.  Could the come back be on?  However Hawks seemed to step up a gear and again scored the important next goal and did not look back as they ran out easy winners and so hold on to their cup for a second year.

Marc Oratis  HDYFL mini soccer co ordinator stated afterwards” Despite the weather causing lots of postponements in the early rounds we managed to get through to the finals and again It was a fantastic advert for youth football, the standard was excellent. All participants  played in the right spirit  and can hold their heads up high, well done to all the boys and girls that took part”
